I Saw You Walking In The Rain

I saw you walking in the rain

Your raincoat says you planned it

Walked out the door in the pouring rain

Not to get anywhere, just to walk

.

Likely a young mother

Which is normal in this neighborhood

But no dog on a leash

Which is not

.

What compelled you to walk now

When even with the coat

You will be soaked through

Walk through your front door, shivering

.

What compels anyone out the door

In the rain

It takes something special

To face this weather

.

Maybe it’s just your time to walk

Napping babies have short fuses

You get what you can

You walk when you can

.

But maybe you’re sad

Or just over it and need space

Or planning a baby shower

I will never know

.

I’d like to say hello

To make you look up

To see your eyes

So I could smile at you

.

Because maybe that’s what you need
