Their assignment finished, Morgan and Patch stopped by the payroll office and picked up their back pay. Most of the money they earned either officially as field agents, or unofficially as booty collectors, was deposited for safe keeping with the Consortium Bank. The Consortium were a bunch of thieves and leg breakers, but stealing from their own depositors was bad business. Like a legit pre-rev bank, they made their money by leveraging their depositors funds. However, their interest rates and collection methods made sure they could always cover their deposits. After their first deposit, Morgan had threatened to kill every bloody one of them if her and Patch’s money went missing. Everyone had a good natured laugh. Morgan, however, put a fine point on the threat by suddenly appearing by the bank chief’s bedside with a dagger pressed to his throat. She had gotten by his twelve bodyguards and two watch wolves undetected, by using stealth and a couple of ham bones.
Their fortunes were safe with the Consortium Bank.
They had just enough time before sunset to spend some of their pay at one of The City’s entertainment centers. ”Entertainment” in The City was government controlled and the centers were spotless and had the best alcohol and the most desirable “entertainers”. Though Morgan had been given the serum, it was still nice not to have to pick bugs off of your partner; or in her case partners. Patch just enjoyed the alcohol and held onto his money, knowing that in a few days Morgan would come knocking. And for Patch, now and then with Morgan was more than enough.
